Import Contacts You Already Have

Most campaigns start with something: a donor spreadsheet, a petition sheet, a list from a previous race, a stack of contacts in a phone. You don't have to leave any of it behind.

Upload a CSV

Open Upload Your Contacts and drag your CSV file in, or click to pick one. CSV is the only format accepted, so export from your spreadsheet as CSV first.

If you're building the file from scratch, download the sample CSV from the same screen and fill it in. Its column headers match what cicada.run expects, which makes the next step automatic.

Match your columns

After the file uploads you'll see your columns on one side and ours on the other. Ours are:

• First Name

• Last Name

• Email

• Phone

• Address

• Notes

Columns whose headers already match are mapped for you. Set the rest by hand. Anything you don't map is left out of the import.

Tag the import

Every import gets a tag so you can find those contacts again as a group. Name it something you'll recognize, like "January 2026 Import" or "Chamber breakfast sign-in", and pick a color. Leave it blank and a default name is generated.

You can also apply existing tags to everything in the import at the same time.

After importing

Imported contacts join the rest of your campaign. If your file is short on phone numbers or emails, select the imported contacts in Browse and run Contact Completion to fill the gaps. That's covered in Discover and Complete Contacts.
