Canvass with the Mobile App

The canvassing app is what your volunteers use at the door. It runs in a phone browser, so there's nothing to install and no account to create. This article is written for the volunteer, and it's short enough to forward.

Enter your code

Open the canvassing app and you'll see five boxes. Type the five-digit code your organizer gave you. If you tapped a link or scanned a QR code, the code is already filled in and the list loads on its own.

If you see "Code not found", check the digits and ask your organizer to confirm the code.

Allow location

The app asks for location access when you start. Allowing it sorts the nearest unvisited doors to the top and makes directions easier.

You can continue without it. Addresses will be sorted by address instead of by how close they are to you, which means more walking back and forth.

Work the list

You'll see your assigned addresses as a list and on a live map. Tap an address to see the people at that household, then tap a person to log what happened.

Record the outcome

Four outcomes cover most doors:

• Not Home. Nobody answered.

• Left Door Hanger. Nobody answered and you left literature.

• Supporting. They're with you.

• Not Interested. They're not, and they don't want a follow-up.

Log every door, including the ones where nobody answered. A door with no outcome looks identical to a door nobody has walked yet, which is how turf gets knocked twice and how a real supporter never gets a follow-up.

For organizers

Outcomes flow back into the campaign, so you can see them on the contact record and in Browse. Codes come from the list share dialog, covered in Build Lists and Share Them.
