Build Lists and Share Them

A turf is an area. A list is a piece of work you hand to a person. Lists are how a district that's too big for anyone becomes six Saturday mornings that fit.

Create lists from a turf

Open a turf and choose Create List. You can split it two ways, and you can use either, both, or neither:

• Split Turf Into. The number of lists to divide the contacts across, up to 50 at a time. Set this to the number of canvassers you have.

• Max per list. The largest number of contacts any one list can hold. cicada.run creates as many lists as it needs to stay under that cap.

Leave both blank and you get one list holding the whole turf.

Size lists to what one person can finish in one shift. A list nobody completes is worse than two lists that get worked.

Share a list

Open a list and use its share option. Every list has a five-digit code, and the share dialog gives you three ways to pass it along:

• QR code. Hold up your screen at a volunteer meeting and let people scan it.

• Link. Copy it into whatever you already use to reach volunteers.

• Text message. Send the list straight to a phone number, or to a contact you pick from your campaign.

The message is editable before you send it, so you can add the meeting spot and time.

What the volunteer sees

The link opens the canvassing app with the code already filled in. Someone who got the code verbally can go to the canvassing app and type the five digits instead. See Canvass with the Mobile App for what happens next.

Reusing lists

Lists stay in the Lists section of your campaign. Contacts pulled from a turf into a list are still your campaign's contacts, so anything logged in the field shows up on the contact record and in Browse.
